Assessment & Evaluation Policy

Assessment & Evaluation Policy

In this class, you will do activities to show what you know and what you can do in English. These activities are called assessments. They help your teacher understand your strengths and where you need more help.

There are 3 types of assignments:

  1. Assessment of Learning (AofL): This shows what you have learned at the end of a unit or course and is used for grades.
  2. Assessment for Learning (AforL): Your teacher checks your work during the course to give you feedback and help you improve as you learn.
  3. Assessment as Learning (AasL): You think about your own learning, check your progress, and use feedback to set goals and get better.

Your grade will include:

  • What your teacher sees (observations)
  • What you say in class or online (conversations)
  • What you make or write (student work)

The school will adhere to the policies that have been outlined in the Ontario Curriculum’s Growing Success: Assessment, Evaluation, and Reporting in Ontario Schools, 2010

Late Assignment Policy

Meeting deadlines is an essential academic responsibility. As such, all assignments are expected to be submitted on or before the stated deadline.

Late submissions will result in a deduction of marks according to the following schedule:

  • Up to 1 week late: 10% deduction
  • Up to 2 weeks late: 20% deduction
  • More than 2 weeks late: 50% deduction

Additional Requirements:

  • All outstanding assignments must be submitted before writing the midterm exam.
  • Assignments will not be accepted after the midterm exam has been written.
  • Any assignments not submitted by the time of the midterm exam will receive a grade of 0.

Students are strongly encouraged to manage their time effectively and submit assignments on schedule to avoid penalties.
